Mambo is a volunteer, open source software project and, as such, is dependent on contributions from the community. This space has been created to help people who want to get started with contributing to Mambo.
Contributing to Mambo is easy so whether you are an aspiring developer, tester, documenter, or Mambo enthusiast with some time to donate to Mambo there are many ways in which you can help.
How to Start Contributing to Mambo
Getting started with contributing to Mambo is simple - just decide on what you want to do, and do it!
Help on the Mambo Forums
The quickest and easiest way to get started is to join the Mambo peer support forums and start helping out other users. The Mambo forums are known for their helpfulness and even the most novice of users can find ways in which to help. You don't need technical knowledge in order to welcome people to our forums and help to create a friendly, welcoming environment for new users.

Write or Translate Documentation
Mambo has a goal of becoming the best documented free open source CMS around and to do this we need writers, editors and proof-readers.
Mambo has two main documentation resources - the wiki (which is where you are now) and our knowledgebases at http://mambo-support.org
.
We hope to provide the knowledgebases in many different languages and work is already underway with this. If you can help translate the knowledgebase into your language please let the team know by posting on the Documentation forum
.
If you would like to write some new documentation or suggest modifications just write about anything you feel would help other users or developers and post your article on the Documentation Suggestions forums
.
If you would like to become an editor with responsibility for ensuring the quality of our documentation, just let the Documentation Team Leader know in the Documentation forum.
Develop or Update an Extension for Mambo
Mambo was designed from the outset with extensibility in mind and the additional features and functionality that can be provided by 3rd party extensions is one of the reasons for Mambo's popularity.
The GPL makes it possible for you to pick up abandoned extensions, update old ones for the latest Mambo, fix bugs, or extend the functionality of existing extensions (including Mambo's core extensions). Or you could create your own.
If your extension uses a GPL-compatible license you can create a project on the Mambo code forge
and utilise all the power of our Gforge Advanced Server free of charge (as long as your work is for Mambo of course!).
Develop Templates for Mambo
The Mambo community is always looking for quality, well-coded templates so if you are a template designer or graphic designer creating templates for the community is another way you can help Mambo. Just like the other extensions, the forge is available for your use.
Contribute your Development Skills to Mambo
If your interests lie in programming, code development, accessibility, usability, analysis and design, testing, and other aspects of software development and you would like to contribute directly to the Mambo code, go to our Contributing to Mambo Code page.
Graphics and Images
Mambo would look incredibly boring if it did not use images. Images are useful visual aids for Mambo users and also bring a fun, friendly style to the Mambo interface. If you would like to contribute your artistic skills to improve Mambo read how to get started on the Mambo Artwork Home page.
Advocacy and Promotion
Help us to promote Mambo and build its image. We need people with marketing, journalism and advocacy skills to help us get our message out and to improve communication. Register your interest
on the forum.
Become a Friend of Mambo
Even if you have no time to actively contribute to the Mambo project you can still make a big difference to Mambo by making a donation. Mambo is a large project with large infrastructure needs as well as expenses incurred through such things as regulatory compliance, licensing and legal fees, representation at developer conferences and expos, promotional materials ... the list goes on.
If you want to give back to the community of volunteer developers who have worked so hard to make Mambo the powerful, flexible and friendly CMS that has become one of the world's most popular content management systems, make a donation today
