Overview of Parameters

Parameters in Mambo essentially allow an Administrator to modify script variables from within the backend instead of having to open and manually edit PHP script files.

This allows a Mambo site administrator to perform a change in value within a particular module, mambot, or configuration setting without the need for any PHP coding skills.

Parameters Tab

Parameters are set up in different areas throughout your Mambo backend. You will see the tab when you create or edit a content item, look at Menu managers and some other managers, edit a mambot, component, a site module or administrator module.

NOTE: some modules, components, mambots, and configuration areas have the ability to alter a scripts function through the use of parameters, others do not. The programmer in each instance must program the module to handle this option for it to be available.

The use of parameters makes Mambo extremely configurable. Wherever you see a parameters tab alongside any content item, component, mambot or module, I encourage you to have a look at the options you are offered. When you are learning to use Mambo, it is a good idea to experiment with the various parameters to see what they do.

To give some ideas:

Every content item has parameters you can change.

Every menu and menu item has parameters you can change.

Do you want most content items to show the author and date? Set this in the configuration parameters. If you want a certain content item to not show the author and date - set that in the content item parameters.

Once you realise that almost all areas of Mambo are configurable by parameters, you will find the possibilities are almost endless and that by using parameters you can really unleash the full power of Mambo.

Now that you have read the overview, let's take a look at the parameters available for content items. Read on for information about Content Parameters in Mambo
